This Prosecco Pink Gin Fizz is one of the easiest and prettiest Prosecco cocktails to make.
What is a Prosecco Pink Gin Fizz?
A Prosecco Pink Gin Fizz is a twist on the classic Pink Gin Fizz. It’s made using a delicate pink gin, high-quality Prosecco and lemonade for lemon-flavoured sweetness. A traditional Pink Gin Fizz uses grenadine, lemon, plain gin and soda water. However, the Prosecco Pink Gin Fizz achieves the same colour with less effort and a better taste (in my opinion!).
The Prosecco Pink Gin Fizz is equally well suited to a summer garden party and a year-round celebration. Personally, it’s my go-to cocktail when I have half-open bottles of lemonade and Prosecco left over. Add some friends, and away you go.
What is pink gin?
The meaning of pink gin has changed over time. Traditionally, it was a simple cocktail where Angosturas Bitters were added to Plymouth Gin. The dark colour of the bitters turned the gin pale pink. However, more recently, pink gin refers to gin that’s been infused with fruit. This turns the gin pink in the process. Pink-infused gin is available in supermarkets and liquor stores with several brands to choose from. And it’s this infused kind that is used in a Prosecco Pink Gin Fizz.
What is the best gin for a Prosecco Pink Gin Fizz?
This comes down to personal preference because each pink gin is distilled using a unique blend of fruits and botanicals. As a starting point, I recommend reading the back of the bottle to see which fruits have been used to pink the gin. You might be surprised to see that the fruits vary widely from strawberry to raspberry to apple and even grapefruit and pink peppercorns. Choose the base flavour you’ll enjoy. Or buy a couple and experiment. Alternatively, next time you’re out at a cocktail bar, try a few different brands.
Serving suggestions
Honestly, this drink couldn’t be easier to make. But, if you’re looking to up your cocktail game, here are some suggestions:
- While a garnish isn’t strictly necessary, adding a little fruit to your drink can add to the overall visual. Strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are my favourite garnish.
- If your pink gin has pink peppercorn undertones and you’re after a more savoury drink, float a few pink peppercorns on the top.
- I like to serve my Prosecco Pink Gin Fizz in a big bulbous wine glass – the kind that has become especially popular for Gin and Tonic in recent years.
- A quick and easy way to cut calories in this cocktail is to swap lemonade for low-calorie lemonade.
- Equally, you can enhance the flavours by swapping out your basic lemonade for one of the premium brand lemonades like Fever Tree or Fentimans, though expect a stronger lemon flavour.
- You can play around with the strength and sweetness by adding more lemonade or Prosecco.
